“Science will save us” says the LA Times in an April 13, 2020 article by Diya Chacko. A recent television ad from Pfizer Drug declares, “Science will win.” This is the collective prayer of much of America and the world. My question is, “Has science taken the place of God in our collective consciousness? Do we now worship science instead of God because science has all the answers and, after all, science is visible and tangible?” I would assert that science and God are not incompatible. God created science. Science is God’s handmaid. Science serves God. He gave science to us as a gift to help us explore and know our universe.

All the elements on the periodic chart whether solid, liquid, or gas were given by God when He spoke the universe into existence. All the laws of the universe whether gravity, inertia, momentum, thermodynamics, or mathematical were all given by God so that we might logically and consistently know His creation. In Psalm 19:1 King David speaks to this when he says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” The Apostle Paul writes, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

What’s wrong with the statements by Pfizer or Diya Chacko? They deny or at least ignore God completely. This is the predictable outcome of years of teaching atheistic evolution in our schools and universities. God is no longer recognized in our public schools, in many businesses, in much of government, and in too many homes and families. We are sliding down the slippery slope of becoming an atheistic nation like most of Europe.

Think about it. Do we worship the Creator or the creation? The creation exists because God created it. He spoke and it came into existence (Genesis 1:1, 3). He deserves all praise, honor, and glory as Creator! It’s like a beautifully made chocolate cake. We praise and thank the baker not the cake. Atheistic science worships the cake.

One of the big problems of atheistic science is the attempt to explain the primary source of everything. Here’s what I mean. Without God as Creator, atheistic science has to explain where the primary mass came from which exploded to form the universe as the big bang theory postulates. Where did man come from? Atheistic evolutionists would say man evolved over millions of years and emerged from the primordial slime. Where did the slime come from? I could go on and on about the first sources for which atheistic science has no answers. Suffice it to say, believing in God is both logical and makes sense. So why don’t atheistic scientists believe in God?  Simple. Pride. They refuse to humble themselves and acknowledge God. Romans 1:21 gives us insight when it says, “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.”

Science may have become the new god in our society, but it will never replace the one true God who made heaven and earth.
